On-the-job
discomfort and pain can be directly linked to on-the-job
performance. Law enforcement professionals have
mission-critical responsibilities. Often their well-being
or the well-being of those beside them are on the
line. Their job performance should never be compromised
because the pain in their back, legs or neck won't
allow them to pursue and perform at peak functionality.
Or in many cases, simply miss work due to their
discomfort.
Making
adjustments.
In
addition to the constant aches and pains, the constant
movement of modules on today's duty belt reduces
the efficiency with which officers perform their
duties. Time is spent adjusting, and readjusting
accessory modules due to belt rotation and module
creep. Complete adjustments are made first-thing
starting a shift. Minor adjustments are made when
sitting in a vehicle. Adjustments are made exiting
a vehicle. Adjustments are made during restroom
breaks. And more adjustments need to be made during
and after running. After a full shift, the inconvenience
adds up.Read about how Duckbill can improve job
performance here.
Muscle
memory.
With
modules constantly changing position on today's
duty belt, the ability for true muscle memory is
reduced. Why is muscle memory important?
Without it, an officer needs to work that much harder
to find the exact location of an accessory on their
belt. As trivial as it may sound, too often a situation
dictates that the quick retrieval of an item (weapon,
cuffs, spray) is necessary and split seconds
can make a critical difference.
Ultimately,
what working in pain and dealing with the hassle
of readjustment translates to is on-the-job dissatisfaction
and low morale. And that can't be good.
